More about the project you can find here
My project is finished but we have only 2 weeks to go. We went on a safari to Lake Manyara NP and Ngorongoro Crater. We had an great cook, guide and driver and we really enjoyed our travel. Arusha, the starting point of the trip, has a really nice climate. Our return in Dar es Salaam was sweaty! In 2 weeks we're almost home. I'm looking forward to see everybody again, but will also mis Tanzania. I'll be back in a couple of days.
Only one month to go before we have to return home! But there is still a lot to do and to visit in Tanzania. We still want to go to Arusha, but it is a little bit expensive. Tomorrow we will visit some buildings in Kariakoo on the inside, at least I hope. That will be the last thing we have to do for our project. I really enjoyed the Uluguru mountains last weekend and I want to go snorkling another time! The coral and the fishes are really beautifull!
Yes, we are back online! Now we can use the internet again on our computers, that's really nice! We had some nice weekends after Zanzibar and we finished some parts of our projects here. We are planning to go on another safari but now to the north.
We're back from a wonderfull trip to the island of Zanzibar! Stonetown was a very nice city in design and in atmosphere. Especially the Forodani garden during night time with a lot of stands grillingfresh seafood! We also met a lot of nice maasai who we learnt to count in dutch. They learned us to count in maasai, but we only remembered 5. The dolfins in the south of Zanzibar were very nice to see swimming. There were only to many boots even in the low season! The north beaches were very idyllic with white sand, blue water, blue sky and hammocks. We really relaxed and are working very good now on our project again. Time is really flying now and there is still much to do on the project but also much to see in the country. We will not be bored the last 7 weeks of our stay!
We're now two months away from home! Let's see what we've done: we went to Bagamoyo, we've been to Simba-Yanga, I've had three times malaria, we went to Ruaha NP for safari and our project is going pretty good. Yesterday we went to Ilala municipal council again and we got a nice report on the plans for redevelopment of Kariakoo. in two weeks we will go to Zanzibar on a small holiday!
Project is working out very well. The teacher here at UCLAS is enthousiastic about our work, especially the amount of work we've done in 3 weeks. We thought we we're slow. But anyway, the project is going well, we drank a lot of tea at the city council of Dar es Salaam, I recovered from malaria for the second time and we went to the beach at White Sands hotel. We're still very busy and almost on the middle of our stay here! Time to buy some souvenirs than!
I'm back. I was in the hospital because I suffered from malaria. But I was better before we went on safari to Ruaha national park. The landscape was very beautifull and of course we saw a lot of nice animals as well. Now I'm better and we're back from safari, our project is calling again. A lot of work still has to be done but we're on the right way. At least we think we are!
Last weekend we went to Bagamoyo, a city at the sea with a lot of history. Germans and Arabics built a lot of buildings but all of them are in bad conditions right now. The palmtrees and the blue see made the place a nice stay, but it was to cloudy to lay down on the beach. Although the photos became very nice. In two weeks we are going on a safari to Ruaha national park with two other dutch girls. You will here from us again when we will be back!
Simba vs. Yanga 2-1. Saturday we went to the soccergame of the year (something like Ajax vs. Feyenoord in the Netherlands). The national stadium was packed with fans. Half of the stadium was for standing, we were sitting on some concrete benches and the tribune was for the VIP's. People climbed in everything that gets them higher than the others. This was a very strange sight to see. We were already at the stadium by two o'clock, while the game was supposed to begin at 16:30. The most funniest thing about the game was the entrance of the Yanga players. A really instable bus drove into the stadium and made a very fast round around the grass. The players got out and started to do their warming-up immediately. Also a wizard came out of the bus and started his ritual to make sure the team was going to win. Unfortunately we didn't took our cameras because we expected a huge crowd. But I did make a drawing of the fully packed stadium to remember it. The Yanga fans were a little violent by throwing bottles and fluids down to us when Yanga scored a goal, while we were seated in the Simba area beneath the Yanga area. It'was a really nice experiance.
We've settled in our rooms and on the campus. Everybody is really nice and enthusiastic about our project. The district of Kariakoo that we choose for our project, is a main topic on UCLAS as well right now. A group of students is finishing their fieldwork in the district and two people are writing there thesis on the district.
We arrived at UCLAS late Friday night. Mr. Mosha was so kind to pick us up from the airport. The campus is a nice and quiet place to stay as you can see on the pictures. It's holiday right now, so we will see how quiet it will be at the end of September, when the college starts again. We can eat at the campus or just across the bridge. There are not many vegetables available, but on every corner you can by a pealed orange. So we have no lack of vitamins. We start tomorrow with our project at the University.
